Gateway Harley Davidson HOG Rides and Patches

Gateway Ride Policy

The HOG Mission Statement is to Ride and Have Fun. We invite ALL Gateway H.O.G. members to join our local Chapter rides and events. We are excited to share the joys of motorcycle riding with more with more of our community. A great way for others to discover what we are about is for you to invite a riding buddy along. To bring a guest on a ride, here is what you need to know:

  1. A guest rider or a guest Passenger can come on a ride as a "guest" of another full member.
  2. There can only be one guest rider or one guest passenger per FULL member on a ride.
  3. Members cannot invite several passengers or guest riders on a single ride.
  4. The guest rider or passenger cannot earn a patch unless they are both a National and Local Gateway H.O.G. member.
  5. This should only be for a "couple of rides" to determine if they want to join. After that we ask that they join.
  6. A Program Ride will only apply to one program which is at the Officers/Ride Leaders discretion.
  7. All Gateway rides are Alcohol and Drug free.

Year Round Riding Qualifications

The "Year Round Rider" patch recognizes dedicated members that ride all year. We are proud to carry this tradition. To qualify, you must be signed up ride on at least one Gateway H.O.G. ride per month. Any official AH HOG ride (Breakfast rides, Road Warrior, Hooky rides, Day Trippers, Road Hog, Ice Cream rides, etc.) counts toward the patch.

There are three different levels:

Gold - At least one ride in each of the 12 months

Silver - At least one ride in each of 11 months

Bronze - At least one ride in each of 10 months

If we cannot offer a chapter ride due to bad weather, the requirements will be reduced by one (1) month. Remember this is a riding program NOT a driving program.

Please contact the H.O.G. office (816.966.2222) or robert@feelthepower.com with your questions.

Dinner Drives/Rides

Because of falling temperatures and darkness, from November, 1st to the time change in the spring, our dinner rides become Destination Dinner DRIVES (unless otherwise specified by the ride leader). A drive does not count toward our Year Round Riding Program, but it does count as a PARTICIPATION Ride. You can check the Swine Line (816-966-6530) and your email for up-to-minute information or changes on the day of the drive. The destination will be announced the day of the drive after 12 noon via phone and email. Your safety is the chapter's first concern.

66 Diners, Drive-ins & Dives – 66 DDD

This ride program hits the Mother Road: Route 66 and all that she has to offer. Riders will enjoy incredible sights, good old fashioned eats, and great destinations.

There are three patch levels. To qualify, you must have a meal at a Diner, Drive-in or Dive on a chapter 66DDD ride and do this in five, six, or all eight states the mother road passes through. These states are Illinois, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California. It could take several years to earn the patch. Members are invited to achieve more than one patch at a time. For example, if you are working towards your 66DDD patch, you might also earn a Discover America patch. The ever-popular Balloon Fiesta Ride is another good example. Let’s get some kicks on Route 66 triple DDD style. Enjoy these restaurants along Route 66

Discover America

To qualify for the Discover America Patch, one must complete a qualifying Discover America HOG chapter ride. Discover America Rides are:

1.      A minimum of 2,500 round trip Harley-Davidson pleasure riding miles.

3.      Gateway HOG sponsored ride lead by a current officer.

Day Tripper Patch

The purpose of this program is to encourage fun and safe riding. We are excited to build a community of other Gateway H.O.G. Members. The program is focused on SINGLE day rides beginning at Gateway that allow all members to take road trips when limited time is available. The description of a Day Tripper Ride is:

1.      1. A minimum of 150 miles with NO maximum mileage. However, the ride must begin and end on the same day safely.

2.      2. You must participate in FOUR Day Tripper Rides during the current calendar year.

3.      3. Passengers who are a National member may participate with the same qualifications.

4.     4.  You must be a Full or Associate Gateway member before leaving on the ride to qualify for the patch.

5.      5. The ride must have a physical point of interest (not just a meal).

Ice Cream Rides

An Ice Cream ride is a chapter ride to a destination to get ice cream treats. To qualify for the patch, you must participate in six ice cream rides in one calendar year. You qualify for a year rocker by participating in six ice cream rides in subsequent years after qualifying for the initial patch.

The slate is wiped clean each January and you will start over for that year. You cannot qualify for both in the same year.

Individual Challenge - Four Corners of Missouri Or Four Corners of Kansas

As always, if you or any of your HOG friends receive a citation for performaning an illegal U-turn, the HOG Office will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This challenge must be completed in a maximum of five consecutive days. Now, what do Steele, Rockport, Alexandria, and South West City have in common with Reserve, Baxter Springs, St. Francis, and Elkhart? Why they are located in the four corners of either Missouri or Kansas of course. They also have at least two gas stations. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to visit each of these towns and bring a gas receipt back to the H.O.G. Office as proof of your visit.

Make sure the receipt shows the date, time and city. A special patch is awarded to those H.O.G. members who do each state.

Individual Mileage Program

Because Gateway H.O.G. is a "Family of Riders," we include an individual mileage program.

For Gateway, this is a yearly program. The mileage you accumulate between May, 1st and May, 31st of the following year counts towards your total. Even though the Gateway charter is from March to March, we feel that running this program through a warmer month leads to more enjoyment.

Now here's how it works. Current Gateway officer must document your beginning mileage. The officer will sign the back of your membership card with your mileage and the date at that time. Your card is your responsibility. Don't lose it. The following May, a Chapter Officer must document your final mileage on your old card. The officer turn your car into the Chapter mileage coordinator.

If you trade motorcycles during the year, you must document the final mileage of the trade-in and the start mileage of your new purchase. This can be done from the paperwork when you trade at Gateway Harley-Davidson. If you sell your bike privately, you must have an officer again document the ending mileage. The Fly & Ride program car be counted towards your total. You must provide an officer with proof of your miles traveled while participating. And no, air miles do not count. If you have more than one ride, each bike must be documented separately.

Your ending mileage can be turned in anytime during the month of May, but May 31st is the final date. All participants will receive recognition and a special patch will be give to riders who ride more than 10,000 miles. Qualifying passengers may also participate and receive the 10,000+ patch.

Road Hog Program

The Road Hog program is based upon a minimum of four rides that total 250-miles per day. This program runs on a calendar year basis. These rides are open to all chapter members and must be promoted either through the Swine Line (816-966-6530), a chapter e-mail, the Heartbeat, or announced at a chapter meeting before the ride. All rides must be approved at an officers’ meeting before the ride. Throughout the year, there will be ample rides planned to ensure your chances to participate.

1.      A minimum of 250 Harley-Davidson pleasure miles per day.
